for U.S. Graduate Students

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is accepting proposals from U.S. graduate students in science, engineering, and education for participation in East Asia and Pacific Summer Institutes. Graduate students who are selected will engage in research experiences in Australia, China, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Singapore, or Taiwan. They will gain first-hand experiences relative to the culture and language and also become introduced to sciences, science policies and scientific infrastructure of the summer institute location. "It is expected that EAPSI awards will help students initiate professional relationships to enable future collaboration with foreign counterparts." Individuals will submit proposals for participation in a summer institute and those who receive awards will become a part of a cohort for each location. The NSF award includes "participation in a pre-departure orientation, a summer stipend, and travel expenses to the research site. EAPSI partner agencies pay in-country living expenses during the Summer Institutes." Full proposals are due on November 8, 2012 and on the second Thursday in November of each subsequent year.
